CERAH is once again opening its Writing Competition with the theme "Our Energy Story: Navigating Life in Transition." Amid the many changes happening around us, this competition invites us to reflect on how the energy transition is actually shaping our everyday lives.
This is not just a space to write, but also to question, understand, and express how energy policies impact us. Through these stories, we hope to spark broader conversations about the future of clean, just, and sustainable energy. Selected works will be published on cerah.or.id and CERAH’s social media. See the requirements below!
Why Write About Energy Transition?
Climate change is happening. At home, in cities, in villages—and perhaps in your own life too. The energy transition can be one way to slow down the impacts of the climate crisis. Now, how do you want to tell that story?
Choose the perspective closest to you and share your story through one of the following themes:
1. Just Energy Transition
President Prabowo Subianto’s target to develop 100 GW of solar energy will shape how we live, from electricity bills to urban air quality. However, we must ensure that this target is realized in a fair and equitable way.
2. Coal Financing
Amid the climate crisis, coal expansion continues. Its impacts may not always be immediately visible, but they are present in the air we breathe, increasingly extreme weather, and rising living costs. This is why shifting financing toward clean energy is becoming ever more crucial.
3. Critical Minerals and the Green Momentum
Indonesia is rich in critical minerals such as nickel, yet production still depends heavily on coal. The challenge lies not only in environmental and social impacts, but also in maintaining industrial competitiveness amid growing global demand for low-emission products.
4. Health Impacts of the Climate Crisis
Air pollution, extreme weather, and water scarcity are increasingly affecting daily life. Yet, their connection to energy use often goes unnoticed. In fact, the energy transition is also crucial for protecting public health and overall quality of life.
5. Fossil Fuel Subsidy Reform
Fossil fuel subsidies were designed for a different era. Not all of their allocations now reach those who need them most. Gradually reviewing and restructuring these subsidies can create fiscal space for more productive investments, while strengthening social protection and accelerating the adoption of increasingly competitive clean energy.
Make Sure Your Submission Meets the Requirements:
1. Your work must be original and has never been published on any platform.
2. Length: 750–1000 words, written in Indonesian in accordance with PUEBI standards.
3. Must not contain elements of SARA (ethnicity, religion, race, and intergroup issues), violence, pornography, or hate speech.
4. Participants may refer to CERAH reports available at www.cerah.or.id
5. Participants must be willing to create collaborative content based on their work with @cerah_indonesiaku.
6. Must include an originality statement declaring that the work is self-written and not plagiarized.
7. Judges’ decisions are final and binding. The committee reserves the right to reject submissions that do not meet the requirements and revoke awards if a work is proven to be non-original.

3. Make sure the folder is publicly accessible
