Survey on Energy & Climate Perceptions of West Java Resident

A survey of West Java public perceptions regarding energy transition issues and the impact of climate change in the momentum of the Regional Election 2024 found that the majority of respondents (93.8%) were aware that the weather was increasingly unpredictable with the highest level of awareness. Most respondents are starting to feel the impact of the climate crisis in their daily lives, especially regarding health and the economy in the future. Respondents also support real action from the government to address climate issues, with the majority supporting government policies related to increasing clean energy and environmentally friendly. 53.3% of respondents also support the use of regional budgets for renewable energy development.

Meanwhile, based on the results of in-depth interview research from experts, the results are the importance of increasing awareness about using renewable energy that is environmentally friendly and concrete steps to accelerate early retirement for coal-fired power plants in West Java to reduce carbon emissions.

The survey used quantitative and qualitative methods spread across six districts and cities in West Java. The quantitative approach used a multistage random sampling method face-to-face with 480 respondents conducted on August 19-30, 2024. The qualitative approach with expert opinion polling used the Delphi method to gain in-depth insights from experts on energy transition and climate change policies in West Java.
